Pasadena City Hall Painting by Brenda Swenson The Pasadena City Hall Seismic Upgrade & Rehabilitation Project is located in the center of Pasadena on Garfield Boulevard. The project consists of structural upgrades including the installation of a base isolation system that will permit the building to move during a seismic event, new shear walls, and a "moat" to isolate the perimeter as well as a complete rehabilitation of the historic interior and exterior components of the building. The mechanical and electrical systems will be replaced as part of the rehabilitation.

City Hall History

The Pasadena City Hall was built in 1927 and is a prominent architectural feature of the city. The Spanish Mission style building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a Cultural Heritage Landmark. The building consists of three main levels with fourth floor office spaces under the central dome. The original building is designed as a concrete structure with a structural steel frame supporting the main dome. There is a one story arcade connecting the two wings on the East side on the building.
